Mr Dr. Marc Grünhagen
Biography
Dr Marc Grünhagen studied economics in Germany and Great Britain. Following his studies in Germany, he completed an MBA programme at Birmingham Business School (UK) and in cooperation with the University of Memphis (USA). He completed his doctorate on "The Evolution of Entrepreneurs' Fund-Raising Intentions - A Multiple Case Study of Financing Processes in New Ventures" with Prof. Dr L. T. Koch at the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.
Prior to his academic work, he worked as a management consultant for innovative start-ups and young technology companies and as an investment manager at a venture capital company. His consulting activities focussed on the financing of young growth companies in the fields of telecommunications, information technology and new media as well as M&A and due diligence projects. Since 2001, he has been working at the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (since 2022 Chair of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Transformation) & the UNESCO Chair of Entrepreneurship and Intercultural Management at the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics at the university of Wuppertal.
His research work, which has appeared in various scientific journals, deals with the topics of entrepreneurship at universities (University Entrepreneurship), start-up and growth intentions in corporate development and start-up promotion (Entrepreneurship Policy). Together with Prof. Dr Christine Volkmann, he wrote an article on the promotion of start-up activities at universities as part of the "EXIST -Gründungen aus der Wissenschaft" programme for the Handbook on the Entrepreneurial University (Edward Elgar Verlag) published in 2014. Dr Marc Grünhagen was also involved in the creation of the white paper "Educating the next wave of entrepreneurs" for the World Economic Forum 2009 and is co-author of the textbook "Entrepreneurship in a European perspective - concepts for the creation and growth of new ventures" (Gabler Verlag).
Dr Marc Grünhagen's teaching portfolio includes courses on business management in start-up and growth companies as well as on economic aspects of entrepreneurship in the context of start-up support and innovation policy and the evolution of markets. He also supports start-up projects and works as a consultant.
In addition to his research and teaching activities, Dr Grünhagen is involved in third-party funded projects together with colleagues from the chair, in particular for the EU Commission as well as federal and state ministries. Previously, Dr Marc Grünhagen was a project member in the BMBF and BMWi-funded EXIST/bizeps projects for start-up qualification and support at the University of Wuppertal.
