Final Papers


For papers to be written in the summer term, the application deadline is December 15th of the previous year; for papers to be written in the winter term, the deadline is June 15th.

Within six weeks we decide on the acceptance of the applicants and contact them afterwards. If the candidate does not accept the offer within two weeks, other applicants may be able to move up instead.

Application documents:

In order to ensure intensive mentoring and prompt evaluation of the theses, we have to limit the number of theses supervised according to the staff capacities. If you are interested, you can apply with the following documents in the secretary's office:

  • Cover letter/motivation letter with desired research focus
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • Performance record (overview of previous grades in studies)



Submission of the application documents:

Please submit your complete application documents both in printed form to Ms Ballin's secretary office (alternatively in the Chair's mailbox on level 11) and by email to Ms Ballin (ballin{at} You are welcome to place your desired supervisor in CC and address the cover letter to him/her.


Requirements for the thesis:

The following criteria will be used to evaluate your thesis:

  • Scientific character: logical structure, correct record of the state of knowledge, quotations, sources, personal contribution/empirical part
  • Content: Aim defined and achieved, clarity of content, completeness, proportionality of individual chapters, scope/depth
  • Representation: language, layout, visualizations


Submission of the final thesis:

Your work must be submitted both in bound form and as a Word file. In case of suspicion of plagiarism, a standard university software will be used to control the work.
